This project, which was initiated in April 1995 and will run until February 1997, is divided into two parts. The first element is concerned with the development of guidelines and training materials to aid staff in setting and implementing objective tests in their courses using Question Mark Designer for Windows. The second element of the project involves the development and implementation of objective tests for formative self-assessment tests and summative examinations in two first- and one second-year Geography modules at Aberdeen, using computer-assisted assessment (CAA).

The outcome of the guidelines and training materials will enable a member of staff to define the formative and summative assessment for a course, while also identifying the place of objective tests within this assessment; design effective assessment questions in order to set and execute a formative or summative test; and adopt an appropriate marking strategy and evaluate the results of the CAA test.
