THEMES
The main theme of the symposium will be: 'Developing an international network for learning and teaching geography in higher education'. Among the questions which we need to address, both in general and in relation to specific topics are:

PLAN OF ACTION
A key element of the symposium is the pre-symposium discussions which is taking place on the Geography Discipline Network WWW site (http://www.chelt.ac.uk/gdn). These discussions are based around the pre-written papers.
Each paper has been prepared by three to five individuals from at least two different countries. This should:
PRE-SYMPOSIUM PAPERS AND DISCUSSION
A contextual paper for the discussion: "Developing and internationalising higher education networks in geography", JGHE, Editorial 22 (3) Mick Healey (1998).
Participants have agreed to prepare papers on the following nine topic areas. A few of them cannot attend the symposium (marked*) and some have yet to raise the finance to come.

Small group discussions of issues raised by pre-prepared papers. Each group to come with a poster highlighting key points from their paper and Internet discussion including proposed action plan. After examination of the posters delegates will be put into groups to identify the most promising projects to take forward. |
