| Geography
for the New Undergraduate (GNU) Liverpool Hope University College | The project objective is to develop a first year undergraduate seminar programme to teach personal, interpersonal and transferable skills within a geographical context. The aim of the programme is to assist the successful transition to undergraduate studies, particularly for non-traditional-entry students, and to encourage the development of effective independent learning strategies. |
| Hertfordshire Integrated Learning Project (HILP)
| The Hertfordshire Integrated Learning Project (HILP) is an institution-wide project, put together by a consortium of academic departments at the University of Hertfordshire.
HILP aims to enhance staff and student perceptions of skills development, and has as its focus the integration of skills development into the academic curriculum. The preferred vehicle for this integration is problem-based learning. The conference workshop will emphasise the application of this approach to geography and environmental studies programmes. |
| Integrating
People and Technology | The project aims to combine three distinct ingredients for more effective student-centred learning into a more powerful integrated strategy which will underpin the delivery and experience of redesigned course units in geography:
|
| Science Education Enhancement and Development (SEED)
| New developments in science are changing how we live, how we earn our living and how we care for our environment. If we are to grasp the opportunity opened up by scientific advances in the new millennium, our Universities will need to offer attractive and well taught science courses and to ensure a continuing supply of energetic and enterprising young scientists with a capacity for lifelong learning. SEED is a University of Plymouth project designed to help meet this challenge. Its role is to enrich teaching and learning in the sciences and to disseminate relevant ideas and materials across Higher Education. The conference workshops will focus on developments relevant to geographers. |

| Teaching and Learning at the Environment-Science-Society Interface (TALESSI)
University of Greenwich | The project seeks to promote interdisciplinarity, values awareness and critical thinking in environmental higher education, especially in environmental science/studies and geography. It aims to do this through the development and dissemination of teaching and learning resources (TLRs) for use across the HE sector. Specifically, these TLRs will be designed to enhance students' abilities:

| Tripartite Interactive Assessment Delivery System (TRIADS)
| Recent advances in computer technology and software mean that much more assessment can now be accomplished through this medium. We propose to ascertain which learning outcomes can be best assessed using this technology, and then adapt an existing generic, multimedia, computer-based assessment system for both formative and summative testing of knowledge, understanding and skills. User-friendly templates for 18 currently possible question styles will be developed to enable academics to produce their own questions. Question banks and "shrink-wrapped" assessments will be developed for the less computer literate. The computer-based assessment system will enable improvements in the quality of learning by:
