| The Hertfordshire Integrated Learning Project (HILP) is an institution-wide project, put together by a consortium of academic departments at the University of Hertfordshire.
HILP aims to enhance staff and student perceptions of skills development, and has as its focus the integration of skills development into the academic curriculum. The preferred vehicle for this integration is problem-based learning. The conference workshop will emphasise the application of this approach to geography and environmental studies programmes. |

| Teaching and Learning at the Environment-Science-Society Interface (TALESSI)
University of Greenwich | The project seeks to promote interdisciplinarity, values awareness and critical thinking in environmental higher education, especially in environmental science/studies and geography. | Tripartite Interactive Assessment Delivery System (TRIADS)
| Recent advances in computer technology and software mean that much more assessment can now be accomplished through this medium. We propose to ascertain which learning outcomes can be best assessed using this technology, and then adapt an existing generic, multimedia, computer-based assessment system for both formative and summative testing of knowledge, understanding and skills. User-friendly templates for 18 currently possible question styles will be developed to enable academics to produce their own questions. Question banks and "shrink-wrapped" assessments will be developed for the less computer literate. The computer-based assessment system will enable improvements in the quality of learning by:
