The Lower Severn Community Flood Information NetworkThe Lower Severn Community Flood Information Network
is an innovative new multi-organisational project that is promoting
urban and rural community awareness of flood risk and local flood
histories at various locations within the Lower Severn catchment.
The network has been co-ordinated by the University of Gloucestershire
in partnership with a wide variety of individuals and community
groups. The lower Severn has a long history of flooding (e.g. in
1258, 1483, 1770 and more recently in 1947, 1968, 1981, 1990, 2000
and most recently in 2007). The extent of community engagement with
local flood histories and the best ways to encourage communities
to have an awareness of past floods as a part of their shared flood
heritage have been topics of on-going national debate. |
